3 Tips for DIY Auto Detailing Your Hood & Trunk

When you are thinking of auto detailing, chances are that you think about taking it somewhere to do it. Auto detailing is a great way to make your car look like new again, but it can be a bit expensive. There are some auto detailing jobs you can do yourself. Here are a few do-it-yourself tips for detailing your automobile.

Lubricate Your Hood Hinges

Use a nice, clean rag to wipe your hinge area, then wipe it using motor oil. Move your hinges a few times so the grease is worked into your hinge. Make sure that it’s on your hinges on both sides. Wipe the excess away so that debris doesn’t collect.

Clean the Latch of the Hood

Wipe the dirt and grime away using a cloth that is clean. See if you can remove any sand that could be embedded in the grease. If you notice stuck or rusted parts, spray your latch with WD-40. Then move it a few times. Then wipe it once again and coat it liberally using grease (white lithium).

Lubricate Your Trunk’s Hinges

Lubricate your trunk’s hinges the same way that you lubricated your hood’s hinge. You should not lubricate your trunk’s gas struts that are slowing the movement of the trunk, since this can ruin them.

These are three tips for DIY auto detailing that you can use for helping your vehicle’s hood and trunk. If you don’t; have a lot of money or time to take it to a place to be detailed, these are things you can do yourself easily without a lot of fuss.
