How to Care for Concrete Paver Patios

If you have a concrete paver patio, you appreciate the way it looks in your backyard or outdoor living space. Concrete paver patios can last for many years, as long as you take proper care of them.

If you want to make sure your concrete paver patio lasts for as long as possible, here are some basic maintenance recommendations:

  • Sweep regularly—It’s easy for dirt and dust to build up on concrete paver patios, especially when it’s windy or after it rains. On a weekly basis, take a broom to your concrete paver patio and sweep away all the loose dust and dirt on top of your pavers.
  • Spot clean stains—You might notice that stains show up on some of your concrete pavers over time. When you notice a stain, clean it as soon as you can. This will keep the stain from penetrating deeper into your pavers over time.
  • Add a sealant—It’s a good idea to seal your concrete paver patio shortly after it’s installed. But if you’ve had your concrete paver patio for a while, it’s not too late to seal your pavers. Either way, adding a sealant to your pavers can protect your patio from the elements and prevent major staining.
  • Just use water—When your paver patio gets really dirty, you might be tempted to take out a power washer and blast away all that dirt and grime. But for most concrete paver patios, the force of pressure washing can damage the pavers. Simply rinse your patio down with water from your garden hose to keep dirt and grime at bay.
