How to Know if You Need Gutter Repair

Your rain gutters work hard to protect you, your home, and your landscaping. Your gutters take a beating and over time they are going to need some repair. It can be difficult to tell if you need gutter repair. And the fact that your gutters are well above your head makes it even more difficult to know for sure if there are issues needing to be addressed. Below are five signs that you need gutter repair.

  1. Peeling paint or rusting metal – If you notice peeling paint on your home or rusty gutters then you may have a leaking gutter. You will either need a patch or to replace a section of your gutter.
  2. Sagging gutter – A sagging gutter will cause water to collect in that spot. When water starts to pool in one area it becomes heavy and can start to pull away from your home, causing even more damage.
  3. Pooling water around your home – A fully functioning gutter system will not allow for water to pool up around your home. If you notice water around your home, then you need gutter repair.
  4. Attic damage – Mildew or staining in your attic can mean improper draining in your gutters.
  5. You find hardware – If you find hardware on the ground from your gutters, you need gutter repair. Improperly hung gutters are unlikely to hold up in high winds or hard rains. If you experience this, then you will need gutter repair.

If you see any of these five signs, then you will want to call a contractor who deals with gutters. You may be tempted to DIY but it’s better to leave the job to the professional.
